My awesome friend Bergen has a new baby......I'm so happy for her (except the infections...sorry dear I know that stinks!) to experience life as a mom. It is amazing to watch your child learn about the world from the protection of your arms.

Today, as I was pulling up to a four way intersection, there in the middle of the intersection was a mama duck and her 7 ducklings. She was not in front of her babies, she was behind, herding them a long. I choked up as I watched them, thinking that is what parenthood is like. We carefully guide our babies (because like my mom says, we are all some one's baby forever) through dangerous intersections. Boy, is life full of danger. But right along side the danger is glorious beauty, love, fun, excitement, happiness. Just like the mother duck on her way to swim in the cool water of the irrigation ditch, we want our children to experience love, happiness, beauty, and excitement. But darn it......we have to cross the the dangerous intersection of life. This is the plan. Later I'm sure I'll comment on the rest of the plan, the time when your sweet ducklings leave your side, and continue on their own. But I don't want to think about that just now. I'm finding Joy in the Journey, praying I'll teach my kiddo what he needs to know when he heads out without me.....and loving every second I'm his best friend!
On a different note. I always love when I find a clean comedian. Listen to this funny lady from the south. Love it!

Beautiful :)
You know, the entrance to our sub there was always so interesting with the irrigation canal that runs in front...we loved the ducklings in the spring...one time we came upon a father duck hovering over the mother duck who had been hit by a car. It was the saddest sight! He was so forlorn without her.
Miss that canal...and the pool!
hey, thanks for the shout out. I do appreciate the duckling story and analogy. I am loving this "mother duck" role, too!
Hi there Sara. I don't know if you remember me from Alaska, but I first remember you from my 1st and 2nd year of Girl's Camp...I am the same age as your sister. Then, a few years later my family lived in Ketchikan for a few years. Anyhow, your son is so cute and I like your blog, from what I have seen of it!
